Terra was recently hired to complete a challenging Coffer Dam Installation project in Philadelphia for BSI Construction. “They said it couldn’t be done,” recalled Terra’s Project Superintendent Michael Morris. “Others had already walked away from the complex project scope. Terra saw this as a great opportunity to earn our customer’s trust. We were up for the many logistical challenges along the way which included night work through a very rainy spring season.”
Terra’s team immediately committed to assisting BSI with managing extremely tight permitting deadlines. We mobilized a crew to work around the clock in order to plan around the tides to bypass water and control the water surge. We utilized cranes to carefully place 58 tons of Precast Head/End wall precisely while undercutting the subgrade to a remarkable 9 feet below the high-water table mark. The final phase included Bank Stabilization, excavation of over 600 linear feet and installing an astonishing 650 tons of R-5 Rip Rap within a remarkable six-day time frame.
Along the way, Terra’s crew also identified a pipe conflict which necessitated a temporary bulkhead ablation under live water conditions. This was resolved within a few days for our client. In just over three weeks’ time, we completed this entire project from start to finish, including the unexpected remediation of several unforeseen circumstances.
Terra Technical Services turned a challenging situation into an opportunity and our client was extremely satisfied. At the end of every day, customer satisfaction is really all that matters. Our team’s expertise and unwavering determination made all the difference on this project. A positive client referral is our greatest compliment, and we are beyond grateful that BSI put their trust in the Terra team!
Trust Terra for your next project, we are up for the challenge…every time!
